The European Space Agency: Guest of Honour 2025!

To mark its 50th anniversary, the European Space Agency (ESA) was invited as guest of honour at the 50th edition of the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. This double celebration offered visitors a unique immersion in the world of space innovation.

ESA presented an overview of innovations resulting from space exploration and their influence on everyday life. Its patent office presented its vast portfolio of innovative technologies and patents, and the role of Swiss institutions in international space missions was also highlighted. A space dedicated to education helped raise awareness of space science among young people.

Bridging the gap between space and terrestrial markets

The agency is renowned for its groundbreaking space missions and the scientific discoveries they generate. But what often goes unnoticed is how the cutting-edge technologies developed for space exploration find new life on Earth. For 35 years, ESA’s technology transfer activities have adapted space innovations to address everyday challenges, delivering solutions across almost every industry.

ESA invited visitors to its stand to discover how space technologies influence our daily lives.

Swiss Space Landscape

Space Exchange Switzerland (SXS), hosted by EPFL and funded by the Swiss Space Office, is a national platform that promotes space activities through a network of leading universities. Swiss’ institutions are recognized as leaders in space research, contributing to landmark missions like Rosetta, CHEOPS, and the James Webb Telescope. Switzerland’s active participation in ESA includes significant roles in missions such as Juice, which aims to explore Jupiter’s icy moons. Our involvement in the International Space Station and the Artemis lunar programme opens unique opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

From pioneering satellite technologies to exploring sustainable space missions, Switzerland continues to push the boundaries of space technology, blending innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation. Swiss contributions to space innovation and international cooperation were presented on the ESA stand.

Showcasing Innovation: ESA Patent Office

ESA Patent Office was presented its extensive portfolio of innovative technologies and patents, demonstrating how these inventions drive the growth and innovation of Member States’ industries. Attendees had the unique opportunity to explore a variety of ESA’s groundbreaking inventions and meet the brilliant minds behind them.

The booth also featured a special showcase of OMEGA watches, highlighting the Speedmaster X-33 Skywalker and the Marstimer, which incorporate advanced technologies developed by ESA.

ESA Education

The ESA Education Programme harnesses the fascination and incredible knowledge generated by Europe’s unique space programme to benefit children and young adults, from early age to early professional levels, and to contribute to the growth of society at large.

Young people were able to discover cartoons designed to arouse curiosity and inspire the younger generation.
